A four-year-old boy has been found safe and well today after spending the night missing in bushland in Sydney's west.
The boy, named only as Isaac by police, and his Staffordshire Terrier Maxwell became separated from friends and family about 6.30pm yesterday while bushwalking at Knapsack Bridge near Lapstone.
More than 100 personnel including police, the dog squad, Polair, Rural Fire Service and State Emergency Service volunteers searched for the boy without success overnight. The search teams covered at least four square kilometres of rugged Blue Mountains bushland last night and early today.
But police said Isaac's father found the boy's dog Maxwell, just after 6am today, who lead searchers through bushland about 200 metres east of where where Isaac went missing yesterday.
The child was in good health and had been reunited with his parents after his 12-hour ordeal, a police spokesman said. The dog had cuddled next to him through the night and only left his side to alert the search team.
"He's fine - he was checked out and there's nothing wrong with him," the spokesman said.
