Jury Awards Man Thousands In Death Of Dog Dog Reportedly Was Treated For Seizures
POSTED: 6:48 am PST February 24, 2004 LOS ANGELES -- A a man who sued his veterinarian for malpractice was awarded $39,000 for the death of his dog.
A Superior Court jury in Santa Ana, Calif., found Marc Bluestone's veterinarian Craig Bergstrom liable for his dog's death Friday but cleared the All-Care Animal Referral Center in Fountain Valley of wrongdoing.
Jurors ordered Bergstrom to give the 61-year-old Sherman Oaks, Calif., man $9,000 for veterinary bills and $30,000 for the dog's "unique" value to Bluestone.
Bluestone brought his Labrador mix -- Shane -- to the clinic in January 1999 to treat the dog's persistent seizures. Bluestone said he spent $24,000 on the illness and complications but the dog still died.
