Wanted to know if it is true if a Bird dog bites into the bird while retriving it, the dog is then no longer suitable for working?

It depends. If it is your personal hunting dog and you don't care if your birds are delivered mangled, than it's o.k., but in a field trial the dogs always retrieve live birds and they must be that way when delivered to your hand. The judges check the birds for signs of "hard mouth". If there are signs that the dog has clamped down too hard on the bird, points will be taken off, and if the bird is delivered dead, it is an automatic disqualification.
With proper training from the beginning, there is no reason to put up with a hard mouth retriever.
