I totally have to vent about this.
My husband and I have been friends with this couple for about 5 years now. Last summer they adopted a dog (1.5 yr old beagle/aussie mix) named Sadie. When they got her neither was working or actively going to school and they were home all the time and did alot of training with her. She was very well behaved with the exception of excessive barking at people and dogs when on a leash, behind a fence or window which they were continuing to work on.
Fast forward about 6 months. Now female component works full time at a vets office with an hour compute and the male component is in medical school and is at the hospital about 80-100 per week. Sadie is spending normally 8-10 hours alone a day. When they come home she acts totally nuts and all of her training has gone out the window. They are constantly complaining about how they never have time for each other or the Sadie
So, with a neglected and ill behaved dog at home, she thought it would be a good idea to foster a two week old puppy (lab/border). (This dog had 6 littermates but the somehow it was decided to let a sinlgle one go by itself, they came into the vet b/c the mother dog died). She carries the dog to work with her everyday while leaving their other dog, who has now started distroying things while they are away, at home. The new puppy get fauned over while the "old" dog (OMG they have only had her like 8 months) barely gets walked. (my hubby and I take pitty on her and when we walk Lucy, alot of the time we take Sadie with us).
Now, after having the puppy for 7 weeks they feel that they can't part with him (which i totally understand, BTW) and have decided to keep him. They decided it would be best for him even after having multiple discussions the lack of time they spend at home, how he won't be able to come to work with her forever, how money is tight already so they are going to have to buy a cheaper kibble (ugh!) to be able to feed both of them, and that they are both so unattuned that they let him wander the house when they are home and pee and poop all over the place. But it will all be ok becuase miraculosly he will somehow become housetrained, learn bit inhibition, learn not to bark and every little thing and will somehow not grow into the large rambunksious (sp?) older pup he is bound to be.
I am so frustrated that I want to scream. I feel so bad for the new puppy and for their older dog and I am afraid that one day I am going to snap and say something rude. Thanks for letting me rant
