A friend of mine has a friend who recently lost her old lab, so she went out and bought a lab puppy. The other day my friend told me her friend, Carol, is "having a problem with the puppy barking and nipping all the time", so she got a muzzle for him and puts him in his crate while wearing the muzzle! Carol lives alone and works full time, so she is gone all day and then has other things she does in the evenings, so this puppy spends most of his time in the crate, and then she is upset because the puppy barks and nips??? I went balistic and I'm afraid I was not very nice. I told my friend her friend Carol is an idiot and is ruining the pup! Well, at least she hasn't taped the pups mouth shut yet like my friends brother's do if their dogs bark!

Why why why why! Why would she get a puppy if she knew she would be at work all day. And why would she have a muzzle on him when he’s in the cage? Some people, oh this ticks me off so bad.

Good for you for going off Loey! ;D Its so hard to do sometimes when you are friends with them. It amazes me how people can look at you and think you are an extremist because you show you care about your dog and train in a manner which they do not choose to try and understand. Normally because they are just too lazy to put any effort into it. I just want to say to them... WAKE THE &%# UP! Look at MY dog compared to yours and then YOU have the nerve to look down your nose at ME!? YEAH RIGHT! And then normally they end up giving their dog away or giving it up to AC or the HS because the dog is untrainable. It drives me up the freakin wall!

"it is necessary only for the good man to do nothing for evil to triumph"
I see and hear so many stories of 'cruelty through ignorance' that sometimes it's hard to stay optimistic fighting the good fight. I run into so many well meaning but genuinely bewildered people in beginning obedience that in the darkest of moments I fear for the future of dogs. Most people want to do the right thing, but are absolutely clueless as to what that might be. When presented with typical dog behavior, they often go to great lengths to do exactly the wrong thing. And when those don't work, they blame the dog.
Gentle and softly worded education of the owners sometimes helps. I've given away maybe 25 copies of Dog Training for Dummies but enlightenment is hard to achieve. I try to focus on the few that I can help, and mentally stomp down hard to contain my rage about the rest.
It's amazing that dogs still like us.
