That sucks Ann....
I think the part that really[/b] sucks is the part about Bob not being able to be insured under your policy because he could get one of his own. That is just plain stupid. As long as you guys are together under the same roof, why should it matter?
Obviously the company is just being cheap and making it worse for thier employees family members to get proper medical coverage. Who thought of that stupid idea? What the heck is "Family Coverage" for anyway if it doesn't cover the entire family?
I don't know if it's time to look for another job Ann, maybe just time to raise a question (or six) to the management about why they're taking this particular path and if they're aware of how it is going to impact many of thier "loyal and dedicated" employees that they so openly cherish.
(In other words, ask them how the he!! they expect people to survive if they keep nickle and diming and jerking them around with stupid crap like this! )

ps..everytime I get a raise up here it seems that ironically, Federal and Provincial income taxes go up the same amount at the same time.....funny eh?

I agree with you 110%. When I started here 11 years ago I was paying $15 family plan, deductables were $5 for meds and drs visits and $ 25 er. Now I pay $50 family plan $40 for meds, $20 for drs and $100 for er. I guess I don't understand why or how could your job get away with the secondary insurance thing. That is terrible. It seems like they don't want the employees to purchase the insurance. (oh and the raise issue, that's a joke here, the longer you work with the company the smaller your raise is. We get capped off at a certain $)

I understand your problem, Ann. I quit the corporate world because it kept pissing me off, getting worse and worse, more work, less pay, and all the while "ooh you are such a great artist - you have the biggest numbers in the corporation" My reward for getting so many ads done? I got shoved into the car ad department. Where ad design is stuck 20 years in the past. Gag.
SO, now I have to pay for may OWN medical care. YES there are headaches galore (I recently had to change companies because, although I am 28 and very healthy, I complained about something EVERY WOMAN of childbearing age has to deal with to my doctor - and my insurance co. wanted me to sign a rider saying they would cover NOTHING below the belt.) I pay $125/month for my health care. I have a $2,000 deductible, and no co-pay benefits, no dental or vision benes either.
And I make $20K a year as a SE.
