I get annoyed with people sometimes...its like they just can't compute that dogs are LIVING animals and you can't just keep them through puppyhood and give them up once they're wild for lack of training and time. Check these guys out...and read their memo underneath their pictures. What lousy excuses people come up with for getting rid of their dog. equine.com/dogs/showdog.asp?dog_id=200000730equine.com/dogs/showdog.asp?dog_id=200000318

I get annoyed with people sometimes. Only sometimes True??? ;D Of course, any kind of physical "cruelty" infuriates me, but, unfortunately, we now live in a society where people also feel that any kind of dicipline is "cruel" for both animals and children, therefore they grow up unruly and obnoxious, and when this happens the dogs end up in a shelter or rescue. There are legitimate reasons for having to re-home a dog, but the above ads do not meet that criteria in my book, nor dogs who end up in shelters/rescue simply due to lack of proper training/dicipline.

I train dogs for a police department. Most of our dogs are single purpose, drug or explosives detection only. That being the case, I use a lot of Labradors and other sporting breeds. Out of the last 25 dogs trained and put to work, 20 of them were from shelters, dog pounds or people that bought a cute puppy that grew into a dog. It's unfortunate the large number of dogs that end up in shelters. The worst part of my job is, when looking for prospective working dogs, being able to only rescue one of the hundreds I see.

There is an "over abundance" in shelters/rescues of most every breed, as well as mixed breeds and it is heartbreaking to have to say "no" to so many perfectly good dogs, simply because they ended up being "too much trouble" for the owner, and because of not having enough foster homes to care for them until they are adopted.

DFrost---thats awesome that you rescue dogs and then give them a job to do. It spreads around a great name for shelter dogs when they're seen like that.
Willow---okay...I'm annoyed with people 'a lot of the times'. ;D Discipline is always looked down upon, so I know what you mean. I remember my parents used to discipline me when I was small, and I think I grew up okay. ;D On the other hand, I see kids with parents repeatedly saying "No..hey, no..we're not going to go to the movies if you keep this up...etc..." The worst part is that the kid actually LAUGHS because he knows that the threat isn't going to be carried out in the first place.
Its so sad seeing animals being given up for crazy reasons. I haven't seen one GOOD reason for giving up a dog to a shelter, and I probably won't ever.
