Thanks for starting us off Shara! I've been meaning to post in here but things have been hectic lately. I haven't read this book yet but I'm putting it on my list of books to read. (Although I think it was already there...I have a long list ;D ) I spent about $124 at Barnes and Noble on Memorial day just in dog books . ....and that was AFTER I put some back. Such hard decisions ...Which was a reason I put this forum up. I figured it would get a few more posts than the one post we had when it was the Show Dogs forum ...we will see. ;D I just finished one book I will post about... I'm guessing you read "How to Speak Dog" since you recommend it. Tell us about it I know I'd like to hear your take.

Sounds like me! I just LOVE going to bookstores, Chapters is my fave, and the next time I go to Calgary, I'll probably spend most of my money in there Ummm.. what's to say... whats to say. I found the stuff about the dogs learning the human vocab, and the part about dogs learning how to read and spell, and the part about dogs and cats and why they always "fight" were the best parts! There's a lot of really need stories that provide examples of what he's talking about, and a lot of it is really funny. Of course NON dog people probably don't find it funny But I sure did, and appretiated a lot of the hummor! It's really well written, and easy to understand, and deffently gives you a new insight as to what's going on with your dog! There's a section in the back thats kind of a "translator" too, what kind of barks mean what and stuff. I found that kina useless because i didn't understand it My dog makes NONE of those noises I swear! He's gota be an alien dog or something

I just noticed this forum. Has it been here long. I haven't read the book but I have read several excerpts and found it to be very interesting in terms of understanding how dogs communicate nonverbally which I find fascinating. The different barks especially. ;D I became more in tune to the different sounds. Deep, high, slow, fast...they all mean a different thing.

I agree Nicole, I think it's just fasinating! People who are in my house when Coal starts barking think I'm nuts I'll sit there and go "It's just someone walking down the road, he'll get over it" or "someone's in our yard" or "Coal's bored" which is followed by a shout of "BE RIGHT THERE!"! And then of course there's the "Coal wants in". People think I'm nuts because I don't even lift my head to see what he's barking at :)I can just tell by which bark he's using
