Our vet wanted us to put Jake on Glucosamine.. What is your thoughts on this? Has anyone put their dogs on it and had improvements?

I am assuming Jake is showing signs of arthritis? Where and how severe? I have been giving my dogs Glucosamine and other supplements for Arthritis for about a yr. now, because when I took Kara to the Vet for her first ACL injury, the Vet said Kara "might" be showing "a little" arthritis in her hips. I also belong to a Yahoo list called Conservative Management. It is mainly for managing ACL tears/ruptures conservatively, but there is a lot of talk about supplements on there, because after an ACL injury and even with surgery, the dog will usually develop arthritis. My honest opinion? Nothing is going to "cure" or stop the progression of the arthritis once it starts and I read posts all the time where member's are saying that what they have been giving is not working or is no longer working. People over there have given everything from Glucosamine to Adequan shots etc., so you might want to go and ask questions etc. because some things do seem to work better than other's. groups.yahoo.com/group/ConservativeManagement/I have also heard about a product from another list called Trixsyn. The person said her dog could no longer get up in the morning and would drag herself around, but in 3 days after starting her on this she saw dramatic results. Trixin contains Sodium Hyaluronate, and here is the website. www.trixsyn.com/I am going to try that for my dogs. I guess what I am trying to say is that there are so many things out there that it just takes a lot of research and trial and error until you hit upon something that works for your dog. Sorry I can't be more help.
