Yesterday while grooming Kara, I noticed a funny looking "thing" on the top of her head. It is small...smaller than a bb, and pink. It looks like it could be "pinched off" quite easily, because it is only attached to her head by a small piece of it on the bottom...like a flower on a stem. It doesn't look like a zit that is attached all the way around, if that makes sense. Has anyone seen anything like this before?

I have seen what you are describing except I am not sure if it was pink. It was a dead tick that stayed slightly attached. It was small. I think it was darker though. Could it be a tick? It could just be a papilloma or wart or something like that.

Sounds like the tick I got off of Jake one time.

I know it isn't a tick, because it is still too cold for them here and she did not have this very long, because I check my dogs over often for lumps/bumps etc., and it does resemble a wart more than a cyst.
Guess it's a trip to the Vet.

I was in a somewhat rural area yesterday and the owner was telling me what a huge problem ticks are and said that they have them all winter although less than in the summer. I don't think that ticks are ever totally dormant. I am glad you are going to the vet though. Let us know what they say.

Just off the top of my head, but maybe a button tumor? They can occur at any time, and they're usually benign. Still keeping my fingers crossed that it's nothing serious!

It sounds similar to the lump Finn had removed from his neck. I sincerely thought it was a tick because it came up virtually overnight and was pink and tick size.
It differed from the lump he had removed from his chest a few weeks earlier, which was gray and clearly tumourous and slow growing. Both turned out to be "folliculo-sebaceous mahartomas" or "focal adnexal non-neoplastic displasia" which means benign (those words and peace of mind is what a $390 pathology test buys you)
Button tumour sounds so much better.
How's she doing Loey?

I am so happy to hear of Finn's diagnosis. I was wondering about it but didn't want to be a bug. Peace of mind sure is expensive but worth every penny.
Is there any news on Kara's bump?

Sorry for not answering sooner. My niece from Colorado flew in Thurs. for a "surprise" visit. ;D I am sure what is on Kara's head is a "button tumor". I hope it is benign too. I haven't taken her in yet, because after all she has already been through, it is so stressful for her! I thought she was going to die the last time I took her in. Also, with her ACL problem, it is so hard for her to walk/stand for any length of time, and she would have to walk a distance to get into the office. On top of it, both Vets offices I take her to have hardwood floors and no rugs and she has always been terrified of hardwood or tile floors, tries to scramble and ends up slipping, and sliding all over the place, which is disasterous for her leg, so I am trying to figure out what I can do to make it easier on her. I am thinking of calling the Vet Monday and asking if she can come out to the car to check her, and I am sure Linda will, because she is really good about things like that. Another problem is getting her into the car. I know she would jump up into it, but again, that will put so much stress on her leg and probably set her back again, and she has had enough set backs already. I know, excuses, excuses....and I will bite the bullet and get her in this week.
