We are always talking about how to start our dogs on RMB's. Gradually, or just go "Cold Turkey". I suppose it depends on your dog, and everyone has to do what they think is "right" for them. I have only switched three dogs so far, and all of the "herding" breeds, but with each one I went "cold turkey" and have not, to date, experienced any problems with diarrhea or vomiting. Usually when you get a rescue, the Rescue gives you some of the food they have been eating, but in "Buddy's" case, I wasn't given any, so rather than start him on a new kibble and risk upsets, I just started feeding him raw with his first meal at our house. I gave him ground turkey with a raw egg/shell mixed in and a meaty beef bone, with marrow. I half expected at least some loose stool the next morning, but there was none, although he continued to have quite a bit of it like they do on kibble. This morning he didn't have much and it was very formed, but not hard. ;D Have I mentioned before that I raw feeding and I am so thankful I found out about it!!!!

I have now switched 4 dogs and a cat all at once...no major issues...the cat and the oldest dog had a little puking.
Rusty is my fourth dog to switch - I did it cause he is fat, his coat is dull and his teeth are dirty. I don't hold out much hope a new owner will continue the program - but at least while he is here - his system can get a reprieve and his teeth can get clean.

Surprisingly, Buddy's teeth are in remarkable condition for an (almost) 8 yr. old dog. Not much tartar at all. I think it is because he probably was raw fed by the Amish.
Today I also noticed that his coat has a beautiful sheen to it that he didn't have when I picked him up. His back legs seem perfectly "normal" to me right now too, except for needing a little more muscle, but they do not seem weak at all now and he walks up/down stairs normally.
I am sure that if nothing "erupts" in the next two weeks between Buddy and Kera, he has found his "forever home". ;D I can't bear the thought of him going to a home where they won't understand his "issues" and where they won't raw feed him.

I switched 'cold turkey' and have had no problems so far. He had a bit of loose stool yesterday, I believe because he was fed handfuls of dog biscuits by everyone at agility class.
