I finally got my dog to vet for rabies vac. last week. She still has a lump on the spot where shot was given. What causes this? I have come home with Interceptor for hw. Advantage for fleas, Kiltex for ticks and Panacur for worms. When do you start you hw prev. in the southern US? thanks.

In the south? NOW ! Seriously, when it's warm enough for the larvae to hatch, usually about 60-65 degrees. The only thing I will suggest with the Interceptor is to give it every 45 days instead of the recommended once a month, you'll use less of it, and you'll dog will be healthier for it. And do a yard check, spill out any standing water that may have accumulated anywhere in the yard, don't give the mozzies a breeding ground if you can. The lump is normal, they're called seromas, and are accumulations of serum, the liquid portion of the blood, under the skin. If it doesn't go away in a few more days, call the vet and have it checked, sometimes, but rarely, it will turn into an abcess.
