Hi I am new to this forum and I could really use some input on my dog. I have a 3yr old English mastiff who for the most part is really well behaved. He walks excellent on a leash. Sits, stays and all very well. He is excellent with children. My problem is that the last 3 times I have taken him to the vet he has been aggressive. He nipped the doctor the first time. He doesn't break the skin or really bite down he just growls and snaps. However since he weighs 185 he can be intimidating. I'm worried because we moved and I have to board him this summer for vacation. I want to get this under control so I don't worry about him be aggressive there. Any suggestions would be appreciated

My female Aussie has had some painful experiences at the Vet and while she has never actually nipped anyone, if I know the procedure is likely going to hurt her, I tell the Vet to muzzle her just to be on the safe side, because I do not want her to get into the habit of biting when she is hurt.
The muzzle may not be a "cure", but it prevents anyone getting bitten, and that is my main goal.

I would get pro-active and find a good kennels for him straight away. Go and visit, and discuss your concerns with the staff. Hopefully they will encourage you to bring him over to meet them and become familiar with the surroundings regularly before your vacation. A few short visits where he has a positive experience and gets used to being handled by someone else could be invaluable.
