I have a big problem this is what happened, My dog an american bulldog injured his tail some how and it has healed but now he has turned into a fear biter if you go near his tail or try to touch it he will growl and snap at you and I have lots of experience with training dogs and with working with bully breeds and I have never seen anything like this and it bothers me because we have a small child and fear biter dogs are the worst because they are so unpredictable it is my opinion that we should remove the dog from house hold but would like to get input from other trainers first to see if there might be a way to correct this problem, he is a good dog and never tried to bite any of us but that tail thing I dont know if he will ever get over it...any ideas? any and all help would be great thanks for taking the time to read this!

LOOK YOUR DOG IS NOT A FEAR BITER! He is reacting to something that once was painful to the touch not because he has fear aggresion unless he did this prior to having and injury. You have to work him back into understanding that it is ok to touch there, and it is not going to hurt him anymore. Are you sure he is still not in some sort of pain? Just because we think it is healed he might have a different take on the matter. Just keep touching him and reassuring him that you are not going to hurt him, and in the mean time keep your child away from him. Once he is comfortable enough for you to touch him then you can start letting your child do some gentle touch but only under supervision. Fear biters exibit this behavior wheather an injury is present or not. Anything and everything makes them bite, so please do not classify your dog as such.
