Hello,
Once again, I am not sure if this is the right forum.
Anyone who read my "Weird Behavior (Aggression?) - What to make of it? " thread knows that we had a little problem with Charlie resource guarding a few weeks ago. At the time, he had never done it before and hasn't done it since, it seemed like a one time thing and only because there was another dog in the room. Until now.
I came home from work and took Charlie outside, just like every day. I was walking him in the woods in back of the house and he found a ball. He picked it up and started chewing on it. I told him to " drop it" for me. He did, I picked it up and threw it for him. He went and got it, came back and laid down at my feet and was chewing on it. I went to get it and throw it for him again and he growled and snapped at me!
I took Dom's advice from the previous thread and put my foot over the ball and slowly took it away from him. No protest or anything like that, he looked at me while I was taking it, but did not make a fuss or anything.
Now we're inside and he just ate. While I sit here and type this, he is across the room and staring at me. His ears are perked up, he is growling a little bit under his breath and has barked at me a couple of times. Not constantly. A little growl, a couple of barks, a little whine, a "chewbacca" noise (as we call them), more growling, repeat.
This is out of the ordinary for him. Other than that one day when Jack the Dog was in the picture, he has never done this. What is going on here? This is behavior that I do not want to condone, but how do I take care of it? I want to nip this in the bud if possible. Help!
Thanks!
