We have two 2-year old pups (littermates) . They have lots of fun together, but we're trying to separate them here and there so we can bond with each separately. We have done this all along, but now feel like we want to teach them fetch or some other game to make our alone time with each of them funner.
Any handy techniques for teaching dogs games so we can bond with them?

I think that it is very good that you bond seperately with each pup. If you look in the positive training and sport training forums you will find lots of games and tricks to teach your pups, many with detailed step by step instructions thanks to Aussie.

I haven't been able to track down any posts that talk about games for my pups. If anyone can help me zero in on some that would be great. Games, not agility training, etc.
thanx....

Look in 'Positive Training' for some ideas. dogden.proboards21.com/index.cgi?board=Positive&action=display&thread=1096663807 discusses good games specifically;there are also threads entitled Stupid Pet Tricks that explain how to teach the roll over, jump through you arms (or a hoop, depending on you tolerance for risk of breaking your nose.) Tricks can be games if you teach them with the right attitude. Do your dogs fetch at all ? Or are you starting from the beginning? I thought there was a thread talking about training fetch, but couldn't find it either. I will try to put together a Teach your dog to Play Fetch post this weekend, but if any one else beats me to it I would be delighted.

My dogs really do not understand fetch too much. One of them will on occasion bring a ball back. But the other just watches it - and then, of course, if his brother brings it back he bites him in the butt!
I think we need to start from scratch.....

From scratch is really the best place to start because you don't have to overcome any bad habits. I've created two threads for you in Positive Training: The Two Hose Game and the Motivational Retrieve.

With two dogs, I would teach them fetch separately to avoid competition. Are they obedience trained to sit/stay? That is also a "must" when playing fetch with two dogs, because if you just throw an object for both to fetch, fights can break out, so I would teach them a good solid "sit/stay" so when you have both dogs out together, one will "honor" the other dogs fetch by sitting/staying while he goes and retrieves the object, and visa versa. This is how retriever people train multiple dogs...or at least should.

thank you for creating that page. I'll go check it out.
Yep, the dogs are trained to sit and stay and I have actually been working on having them in the same room, but giving them different commands to respond to.
