Hi I have a 2 yr old male German shepherd and I was wondering what I can do to build his confidence up to stop his submissive peeing? We are about to move into a new home with carpet and I'm afraid of a mess.

How long has it been going on? Most dogs outgrow SU eventually, as long as you keep your reactions to the dog low key.

This is not unusal, maybe a bit more uncommon for a male but certainly not unheard of. My female GSD who will be two in April still does this rarely but it still does happen. I hope that the link Brook posted was helpful. Alot of whether they continue this or not depends on your actions towards your dog. I know with Willow because she is more on the timid side and VERY submissive to us, every once and awhile if I raise my voice a bit or startle her she will piddle a bit. I have been told that in a way we should feel honored because she has completly accepted us as her "SUPREME RULERS" and as comforting as that is to know she respects us to the max, it can be frustrating when you have to clean up the puddles We have changed our reactions to her buy keeping our voices very calm and low toned, and by working on building her confidence, and to do that I let her win sometimes when we are playing a game of fetch etc... I also have got her doing some agility drills and believe me this has helped EMENSLY The only time this really happens anymore is at the VET but that is a whole different issue The older they get usually this does pass but following what you read in that link will assist you. The other thing to is to make sure it is submissive peeing and not excitment piddling, we were dealing with both, so now when someone comes over I just tell them not to talk to her right away, because she gets so excited to see guests and then the fluid would flow I also put her in a down stay for about 5 minutes and by that time she has settled and it works pretty well. Good Luck
