hi there folks!
haven't been in this part of the world for a while now. i started working full time since April and boy am i up to the wazzoo with chores, unfinished projects, i just want to freeze time!!! i only spend like 10 min on the computer and sometimes skip reading this forum. my question is this: Ringo is now 16 mos old. when he was neutered (spelling?), the vets office's kennels were downstairs (office was a house) much like a basement in a house. so there would be like 10-12 steps. he could never go down our basement stairs and so he had to be dragged by the nurse/tech with a treat and speaking to him with encouraging words. this was in feb/march. now, he still doesn't like going the stairs. my son (reserved Marine now) is home since June..jobless and looking. his "pad " is the finished basement. he loves Ringo very much and he wants ringo to spend time with him downstairs, maybe sleep with him. we started trying to introduce him by carrying him down. he was fine, walking around and then hanging out. he had to carry him upstairs later on. we gave hima treat when he was brough down. he whined once while being carried down. did the same procedure again the other day but no whining. carry down, carry up. how can we teach him to go down w/out dragging his collar and/or carrying him. whenever we encourage him with a treat and say " downstairs" he would immed. go under the kitchen table and just stays ina down position. no ham, no cheese, no liver treats would make him go down. David (son) would even leave a trail of treats (much like in ET w/ the skittles) ...nothing. he's such a smarty pants or he's such a wimp.
so my gurus, what do you suggest?
