Jetta is doing well except now she has the annoying habit crying and whining in the morning. I have been handling it by saying “enough” then I wait for her to quiet down before I let her out. Taking her outside is the first thing I do in the morning, other then get my clothes on. She did not do this before I had to go to Kansas for a week. During that time she was in the care of my fiancé, who has a long record of being a softy. Now he argues that I should let her out because she is crying and she needs to be let out. I told him that is not the point, I just want her to be quiet when I say “enough.” And that she needs to learn that she can’t get her way by crying. Is it wrong for me wait the extra five minutes? And what else could I do to correct her?

I am a firm believer in sleep on my schedule. Call me human-centric, but in my house, I determine when when day starts, not the dogs. So I think your approach is the correct one. Don't reward the whining, reward the quiet.
Jetta is old enough to hold it for 8 hours or so. It's probably not urgent need that's driving the whining, it's the fact that it worked. If your finance wants to be extra considerate and respond to the whine, he could get up an hour before you to let Jetta out. Just a thought.

Aussie your post made me laugh because you were so diplomatic about the fiance. ;D I would hit him over the head with something if it were me. There is nothing more annoying to me than a whining dog. I would ignore it and it should extinguish pretty quickly since your finance only had a week to reinforce it.
