I thought this problem would be simple to correct but I feel like I am chasing my own tail trying to solve it. Our 5 month fem Shep X gets so excited around people she can not be still. If someone approaches us she will jump all over them. She can almost knock someone over with her tail alone. She will not jump on my husband and I. However, when we come home she will wiggle, whimper, whine, and bark because she can't contain herself.
We have tried a few different things but we haven't found a solution yet. So far we have ignored her until she calms down, stuck our knee up when she jumped, rotated our body so when she did her flying jump at us and knocked her off balance, refused to give her attention until she accomplished a command and have taken her to areas with people and let her watch from a distance telling her no when she started to jump in their direction. We tried to recruit people to help us but the only thing it has accomplished was reinforcing her bad manners. Nine times out ten (after we tell them what to do and what not to do) they will drop to their knees and hug her while she is going nuts and say "Awww but she is so cute"
Atm she only wears a nylon collar and will walk on a loose leash fine with that. UNTIL she sees someone else. My mom, her bf, and their sheltie X lives with us and I do not even like bringing Sadie into the living room when they have company. She knocks over their drinks and tries to climb in their laps. I know she thinks she is the size of my mom's sheltie X but she isn't. Btw my mom's dog has no obedience training and everytime I try to get my mom to work with her dog it falls on deaf ears.
I almost feel stupid saying my puppy loves people too much but please She is 55 lbs of wiggling muscle.
