How do you keep away snakes? Today as I was carrying stuff into the garage, I saw a brown snake slither across the drive into the ground cover right outside my front porch. It was less than a meter away from me! I grabbed Tarot by the collar and slipped into the garage. I am more than a little freaked to have one so close to the house. This issue is seriously cramping my style. I can't let Tarot out unless I keep her on lead. She is a lizard hunter. I am now afraid to leave her in the front, and she has learned how to climb out the back yard. I'm just relying on Sailor's natural passivity and good sense to protect her. I lost the best dog ever to a tiger snake just over a year ago. I was thinking he had killed the local one, but clearly there are more around so I need to do something to keep the snakes away. Has anyone ever used a snake repeller? Something like this: www.stop-snakes.com/AUSTRALIA%20PAGE.htm As you can see they are not cheap, and I'd probably need about four. There's also a spray that you can buy called Shoo Snake. It would have to be applied regularly, and I being realistic I am not good with maintenance. Ideas? Help!

UGH - just looking at those things and knowing how lethal they can be makes my skin crawl!!!
I like the idea of those sensor units - costly yes but if they work as advertised, you have an invisible shield protecting your property (or at least where the dogs and you frequent).
If the spray stuff is more cost effective for you, I guess it is just an issue of being on top of the application (or re-application) on a regular basis.
Either way, I don't envy you for having to endure having those snakes within close proximity of your home. Around here, we just have to deal with pesky raccoons getting into the garbage occasionally - those snakes are far far more challenging to deal with!
