Well, I've taken the plunge and put my name down for one of nine German Shepherd cross puppies that came into the shelter. They were unsocialised, but healthy. The mix is possibly Husky and Dingo. I was originally interested in only her big brother, but in the course trying to socialising him I couldn't help but notice the puppy that was turning backflips and holding up a neon sign to show me things that I wanted in my next dog.
This is Tarot in a puppy ex pen at 6 weeks. Tarot like Tarot cards (Taro). She's about seven weeks now.
And here she is performing Shiatsu massage on her sister Kip:
I was uber ambivilant at first, and drove myself crazy trying to decide if I'd really found a diamond in the rough or just uncovered the best of a bad lot.
Tarot did really well on the working dog puppy test. She has heaps of confidence, food drive, and is people oriented. She's kind of sweet. I think I see sparks of drive there.
Her sister Kip, on left in this picture, is to die-for-cute. She is whip smart, and has some prey drive, but lacks confidence. Kip now also has an expression of interest for when she is desexed next week.
I don't know what Tarot's flying nun ears are going to do in the weeks to come. I'm going to leave her at the shelter for a couple more weeks so that I can finish my CGC work, and also because I'm at a conference this week - the World Small Animal Veterinary Association. I hope I do not crush this girl with the weight on my expectations. I hope I will love her for the dog she will become. I hope I am ready for this one.
