I haven't been here in ages, I'm sorry. I hope everybody is doing okay.
We've all been good - Ripley and Dakota are full of themselves as usual, and Dakota has really come through for me in a couple of shifty situations in the last 3-4 months. Most recently, unfortunately he blew off a recall command while pursuing someone who attacked me, and cut his feet and chipped a canine tooth in the process. Thankfully neither of the injuries were serious and the chip on the tooth is barely noticable, but I plan on doing some PP training with him once he's 100% healed up, not so much to teach him to protect but to proof his obedience in threatening situations. That lack of control over him really frightened me, and had the kid who tried to mess with me been armed, Dakota could have been very seriously hurt or killed. I know he meant well and was just trying to stand up for me, but I couldn't have forgiven myself if he was hurt. As an aside, I considered joining a Schutzhund club with him, but they wouldn't even evaluate him because he's a BC. I'm currently searching for a reputable "civil" PP trainer. So far all I've found have been hicks who run at the dog with a stick and provoke it until it wants to attack.
Ack, went off on a tangent there. Anyway, I wanted to stop by and say hello, and also introduce my new sheepdog, Eve. I flew to North Carolina a couple weeks ago to pick her up, and she's been the most wonderful puppy so far. She's my very first sheepdog and I have high hopes for her. She's pretty dang photogenic, too!
