And have acquired a kitten.
Sweeper is from the shelter. A bag containing a mother cat and a litter of day old kittens was thrown from a moving car onto a freeway. The bag was run over by the car behind. Luckily that car stopped and brought them into us. And the license plate was turned in, and the man has been charged with 5 counts of aggravated cruelty and one count of cruelty causing the death of an animal.
The mother had a broken tail, and one of the babies was dead, but four others survived and were raised in the front room of my office. Sweeper developed an obsession with playing with the broom. He is fearless and cheeky, making cleaning a nightmare. (His sister 'Mopsy' had similar taste in playthings.)
I was charged with entertaining them in the mornings so that cleaning could occur; and yada yada yada, Sweeper came home with me one day. The rest of the litter got adopted quickly and the mother is now 'nanny' in our kitten room. Everyone loves her. She's got such a beautiful temperament.
Sweeper is heaps of fun, and I am clicker training him to sit. He's very, very affectionate, mischievous and a bit of a rebel. He's just over three months old now. His eyes are still blue but are going green. He's curled up on my lap right now and is purring his head off.
And, um . . . I have to confess I have another kitten on the way. To keep Sweeper company.
'Scooter' is a purebred male Birman kitten. Last week we were called in to clear out the animals following the police bust of a meth lab. Along with the obligatory pit bull guard dogs and pot bellied pig, we found a professionally run show and breeding set up. Trophies and ribbons and pedigrees and all. There were two females who were pregnant and two males.
Margarita gave birth to four kittens within an hour of arriving at the shelter. The other three adults have been adopted out to breeders as they are 'known' in the cat world, and we have had an offer of $1,000 each for the other three kittens. We might actually make some money on this deal. Sweet.
Anyone know about raw feeding cats?
