I have been pretty busy with Josh being home and have not really had much time to be on the board but I thought I would take a moment early this morning to share something with you guys that just kinda got me going, and that does not take much these days Bob's friend has a cousin that has a not quite 1 year old female GSD, and because of a relocation of his job, they need to find a home for her not something they want to do but they have to. She has a wonderful pedigree, she is spayed, and completly OB trained. They use to go to the GSD Club in GB all the time for training. VERY NICE SWEET DOG. They are giving her away for free to a good home. Well the story if very interesting. They had approached the local guide dog school that is being built here and they took her out to meet the "SO CALLED TRAINER" so they could assess her. Would you like to know what they told them They told them that their dog was TOOOO FREINDLY They said they are looking for dogs that are more protective more warning and ones that will not be as reseptive to anyone Ok now of course I do not train Guide Dogs and obvioulsy they do not know WHAT THEY ARE DOING EITHER but I met this dog, and she IMHO would have made a WONDERFUL CANDIDATE FOR THIS TYPE OF WORK She is 100% proofed in her OB she is not hyper, she has just enough drive to make her a good working dog, AND she has extremly strong nerves. I will say I am very glad they turned her down because I would hate to see such a nice dog be ruined by them, but in the next breath I am concerned about their assesments of appropriate dogs for the program. The guy told me that when he went out to the kennels that have already been built and he saw the GSD's they had out there who were being put through the program he was bit afraid he said they reminded him of GAURD DOGS he said they were growling and going nuts because there was a stranger on the property, NICE he tried to explain to them that his dog had NEVER EVER EVEN GROWLED at anyone and you could see that because when he brought her here for me to look at she was at home right away, not hyper, not distracted she acted like this was her home and was very comfortable. My three of course we not at their best but in a short time everyone was playing etc... I don't know guess I have been out of the circut for awhile and must not understand As much as I would have LOVED to take this dog of course I am at my limit so I did put him in touch with someone who takes dogs in to train for service work and I think we may have found her a good home. SHE WOULD BE THE PERFECT DOG for a younger person because she is Raven's size and so good. When the other trainer met her and called me he said THIS DOG IS AWSOME and he too could not understand why they turned her down, glad they did because she will be better off with him but still it does scare me as to what exactly they are going to be producing and placing with CHILDREN at the OTHER PLACE WEIRDOS
