Had to share this - I used to have a problem with my Ana (when doing agility) that she has soooo much drive and gets so excited that she starts going into full on GAME mode, running all over the place instead of focussing on me. Also she would not seem to realise that the point is for her to do what I tell her to, and not just to do the course in some arbitrary order, prefferably with lots of tunnels and A-frames thrown in... Food treats helped for a little while but soon stopped. Now I got a SECRET WEAPON. A small squeaky toy that goes in my pocket. She does NOT get to play with it EVER. She hardly gets to see it. Just before we practice on the course, I will indicate my pocket and remind her that it is there. If she runs really well, out it comes, she gets to munch it once or twice and then I whip it out of her mouth. She has become a different dog. Everyone has commented on how much more focussed she has become. No more wild antics, and she watches me! Only thing is, if I dont get that leash on before I let her mouth the toy, things go pear shaped. That happened once, and she scuttled away from me and ATE the toy. Munched into tiny pieces and swallowed. This is a dog who never chew up her toys, a soft toy can last for years.

Hey, you are training in drive!. It's a great feeling when the dog is working in drive and the rest of the world just disappears.
