I was thinking that too about hounds. Also how does SS propose to end the overpopulation problem by MAKING MORE DOGS? I still think we need to worry more about a dogs temperment and behavior than its looks though...This includes breeders and people looking for dogs to add to thier families. Wouldn't go so far as to create a whole new breed though. Laura - did you see the wiener dog with narcolepsy on that special? he was soooo cute he would just get all excited and then flop down on the floor fast asleep!

On the Nova special? Yeah, he was hilarious ! Like a wind-up toy that runs out of gas . "Where's the cheese, gimme the che..........zzzzzzzzzzzz" And as for Sternberg, she wants to euth 75% (has been heard to say that at her seminars) of the dogs in the Northeast to solve the problem, and basically start from scratch .

I thought the *Labradoodle* and *Goldendoodle* were the *perfect new breeds now?* As you say, creating more breeds isn't going to solve the problem! There are more than enough perfectly fine breeds and mixed breeds out there. It all goes back to educating the public (dog owner's), but there will always be those you can't educate.

The only way to stop pet overpopulation is for all vets spay/neuter free of charge! I don`t know what the cost of spay/neuter is in the States, but where I live, it costs close to $350.00 [including shots] for a cat or toy breed dog.. Medium to large dogs are a bit higher. Needless to say,few people on low or fixed incomes can afford the cost. Llasha22

LOL warning turned into venting Very long.... Reading everyones post (excellent responses) and agree it will never be enforced were it would actually make a difference at the core of the problem of non law abiding owners and puppy producers. We use to be able to call animal control to check out prospects for new puppy buyers. I once obtained information concerning a man "who gave us a really sad sad story on how his family lost their 13 year old GSD they recently had to pts, and his family is just beside themselves with out a dog" I call animal control like I have done for years and find this guy has registered 14 puppies in the last 7 years and never re registered after the first time. Of course "NO PUPPY FOR YOU!!!" animal control was just as shocked as me but would never do anything about it. 4 years ago I was doing my same background checks call animal control and get ""SORRY THAT IS PRIVATE IMORMATION WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO GIVE IT OUT""" GIVE ME A BREAK PEOPLE.......THEY DONT EVEN HAVE A BAD BREEDER LIST..... At our old neighborhood the people just up the road from us had what they were calling it " A hybrid wolf SANCUARY "" yeah right. they were gsd/wolf mixes too close to our hearts,I spent too many years listening to young pups screaming being bred and attact by the adults you can't imagine what that does to you!!!!!. What they called a facility was just a huge open pen no place to keep younger animals safe. 3 years of calling the law, animal control. many court dates with them never showing up... Fines placed upon them that they were never held to pay........ Sheriff Dept/animal control there on many occassions found thier facility to be acceptable. They were told that 40 animals in a small contaiment was too much they would have to bring it down but never enforced it or took the animals. With all the warrents and unpaid fines building all they did was pick up in the middle of the night and left. They went to North Dakota is where they found them, and the process will just start all over again if they have neighbors anywhere near. We were never notifed that they were going to be held accountable. Never forget my first call to animal control asking what I could do and I was told, that it was out of their jurisdition becase we lived in an annex of the city and not the city for us to call the sheriff dept... If the entire neighbor had not gotten involved we may of not of been able to do what little was done and that was only to intrud upon them. We have a new 2million dollar animal control building, it looks like a hunting lodge all nice real stone face buiding. It is like going to a zoo you walk down the indoor hallways and the dogs are kept in stainless steel bins enough to stand in so you can view them behind a glass wall. Can't be more then 50 dogs on display. Everyone has nice individual offices wall to wall carpet. I thought I was gonna throw up walking through it for the first time. Were are the other dogs? ? are they being kept down in the dark basement of this new high tech facillity??? The new single buidling took up all the open land area they use to have where they had several long buidings with indoor kennels with long outdoor runs open to the sunshine and they were always full. there is no longer anywhere for outdoor exercise and if they are still managing the high volume of dogs they have always had to deal with WHERE ARE THEY except in goodness knows what containment underneath that buidling where only a few have the privlige of being brought up top for display... Long winded am venting it just goes on and on so I will stop.. THE GOVERNMENT/STATE SUCK... I feel better going to the local breed rescue groups and giving dog food, equiptment, cash donations to them. Then ever want to pay support to government/state supportive programs. My final answer is: SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL RESCUE GROUPS. GIVE OFTEN.......IT SEEMS THEY ARE OUR BEST HOPE FOR THE ANIMALS................................
