Hi
I'ts been almost a month since I last posted. Magic is a changed little girl. She never reacts to the phone anymore and mom or I can pick it up without her batting an eye. She is no longer tethered to me but now I can call her off an frenzy just by using my voice even if there is someone at the door. It isn't perfect yet, but we are really getting through to her that she cannot throw a fit if someone comes to the door. The muzzle is still used if I have to go out of the house alone and mom is here. But she usually puts herself to bed (in her crate with the door open) if I walk out of the door even without the muzzle in place. She looks to me first now before she responds to sounds, bikes, people or other dogs. If I tell her ssst she immediately sits down and watches but doesn't react at all (she knows she'll be punished if she does)
We are leaving a week from tomorrow to go back to Michigan for the summer. Once we are established back home I will tether her to me for a week or two (depending on her behavior) so she understands that I'm the boss there too, and will do the same when we come back down to Florida next fall. We just may have gotten a handle on this spoiled little girl's behavior problems and I just wanted to share with you how she's doing. There has been no lunging, no snapping and no attempt to attack myself or my mother in the short time since she has been tethered to me.
I've gone one step further with this with one of the other boards I frequent that only uses PP training, it's now history, I recinded my membership and will not go back there for any reason. They just don't get it that PP isn't for every dog in the world and don't like what I have to say about alternative training methods so hasta la vista baby!
