Hello
Magic has been tethered to me for several days now. She doesn't have the freedom to do what she wants to do anymore and has come as far as not reacting at all. If I have to go out of the house for a minute the muzzle is picked up and she walks to me, sits down and raises her nose so i can slip it on. She doesn't like it, but is resigned to having it on and knows I'll take it off when I come back in the house (if she's a good girl)
Yesterday I tried leaving her drag leash close to me but not tethered to me. She was able to lie down six feet from me (tho the end of the leash was right at my hand) Ann (my friend) came to the door and knocked. Magic raised her head, looked at me (I said stay) she put her head down and stayed where she was until Ann came into the house. I then released Magic and she went to Ann and greeted her like a normally excited pup who is anxious to make a new friend. I'm not done with her training yet, but I consider this a great break through. The phone has been ringing off the wall for quite a while all I do is point at her and say stay or sssst or stop and she doesn't move from where she is. I can get up and walk across the room to answer it without her lunging and snapping.
Now comes the hard part, convincing Mom that she has to do the same thing. She doesn't want the dog tethered to her (fear of falling, or being tangled in the leash) While I agree it's not the best senario it seems to be the one that works the best for us and one that Magic understands the most. I'd like to try it for a while when I'm right there to help if there is a problem but mom says no she's not going to do it. So I'm still in the same delimma, mom's inability or unwillingness to help with the situation....... Mom does give commands but if I'm not right there to reinforce it when Magic decides she doesn't have to listen, all the training I've done goes out of the window.
