Hi all! Alfie is a mix of Staffy and Lurcher. I adopted him lat year when he was 10 months old, and from what i can gather he hadn't had much of a life and had been shut outside all the time. He has turned from a nervous disobedient animal into a loving and very intelligent, well behaved pooch! My mum has him during the day while i work as i dont want to leave him at home on his own, and recently he has started showing aggression towards other dogs in the field mum walks him in. My mum has 2 dogs of her own and he has always got along with them, and any other dogs. All he does is go to nip at them when they are near, could it be he is nervous of other dogs once again?? If so then how could this have come about? The one dog in particular that he sometimes goes for has grown bigger than him, could he be wary of this? Any info would be gratefully received, I just want him to feel happier! Thanks!!

Hi Noonin. It is hard to tell without seeing what is going on. He could be acting protective toward your mum, telling the dogs to keep away, exerting his leadership with the larger dog. The safest course would be to keep him on a leash and away from other loose dogs. Read the article on NILIF at the beginning of the training section and both you and your mum should follow it. This will help you to teach him that you and your mom are the leaders and that you don't need to be protected. And don't worry, it has nothing to do with happiness. It sounds like the dog is very happy and lucky to have been adopted by you.
