Hi, nice site!
I'm the slave to Ripley, a 9 month old Papillon, and Buster, a 12 year old Labrador. My mom got Buster when I was about 2, and he's more like a brother than a pet to me. He's always been a very easy dog to live with and never had any aggression or temper problems. He's never met a stranger.
I got Ripley in December after about 4 years of wanting a Papillon desperately. He's got the true Pap personality: active, bubbly and smart as a whip. I'm training him in Agility, but he's taking a short break from it because he had surgery to correct an umbilical hernia. He gets his sutures out on Monday.
As for me, I'm 14, and known by most of the little kids around the neighborhood as "Ripley's owner". I move back and forth with my parents from our house in Idaho to our house in Arizona, to stay in the heat. (Which I hate, but, thanks to A/C, can avoid) I am going into grade 10, I do school online so we can travel (and so I can have time to train my dog) and my hobbies pretty much center themselves around dogs.
Anyways, neat site, I'll have fun here!

Heh, I'm a big-dog person as well, but Ripley has the large breed mentality. I think it's because he's trained in obedience, and knows how to be a dog. (SO many small dogs are babied until they don't know WHAT they are. )

'Course, it's better to be babied than neglected, but, IMHO, dogs are dogs, regardless of size.. Not that Ripley doesn't get picked up and cuddled, but he's expected to do a job other than sit on a lap, which I think brings out a good temperament.
Most dogs I've met LIKE to work, and the little ones that don't have anthing to do just get bored and decide to spend their spare time dominating and challenging their owners, which leads to the biting, yapping etc. that alot of little dogs do.

That is so very true. All dogs need a job of some sort, even if it's just being well behaved

Small dogs just don't get the respect they deserve in obedience or agility. A Cav or a Papillion does a beautiful heel pattern and everyone says How Cute. Many people overlook that they have to be just as athletic as the big dogs.

IMO, the little tiny guys have to do more work than the big dogs. Their strides are shorter and, for Ripley anyway, the 12" jump is about level with the top of his head, so it's a high leap. Take the regulation A-Frame fir example.. A GSD or another large breed can tackle the A-frame in one big bound, but a little dog has to take a lot more bounds to get to the top, and how they do it and still produce a competitive time I think is deserving of a LOT of respect. I got so mad at one lady... I was working Ripley in the park, to build up his immunity to distractions, and this one lady walked up to me and started gushing over "what a trooper" he was, and then gave me a big long lecture about how little dogs don't need any training because they're so cute and sweet. .. And, on the end of the leash in her hand, was a little Bichon, yapping and pulling away. Another person saw me working Ripley on the chute, and commented on "the little dog playing in the tunnel-thingy". If he was a border collie, they'd have commented on "Wow, look at that agility dog".
