I have decided it is in Conka's best interest that she be evaluated as a service dog. She leaves tomorrow morning, and if all goes well she will be fine tuned and sent to Maryland in a month to begin her "job".

A hard decision, but a good one. Congratulations.

Hi there,
Can I ask why you're taking this path now with her?

Rocky, I dont know the reasons, it is hard but feels right for her. After losing Sage last month, I dont feel that I need a dog in my life. I dont really have an explanation... I just cant do it anymore. Too many responsibilities not enough of me to go around. Its only fair for her to have the best, and I can no longer offer her that. At least as a service dog, she will have a purpose.

I understand..given all that has been going on, I'm sure there are a lot of things you'd like to get sorted out right now. If Conka's calling is to help others, then it will happen.
If it doesn't work out and she can't be a service dog, I hope you can consider to let her be a part of your life again. If anyone will ever stick beside you no matter what life tosses at you, it's your GSD....
However this turns out, you have my support and respect.

Thank you, I am definitely not looking to re- home her. If she does not work out in this "trial" to the ladys satisfaction. She will be returned to me. The gal in Maryland is almost blind, she is incapable of bending and needs a protective dog. Not that Conka is in ANY way aggressive but people are still afraid of her. Even with her tail swaying, and that goofy sheppy look on her face. I dont get it. I guess she does not live in the best part of town. They are set on a GSD, but lets face it what are most of them made of now? I know she has the nerves and the drive to do the work. This gal (the trainer) had Conka for a few weeks about a year ago, but returned her because she ended up having Conka's uncle (a trained service dog) given to her who is an intact male. And the trainer herself at the time was/ is disabled (she can work dogs now). This morning its more of a reality and I want to back out. But its only ME doing the talking, deep down I know I need to let her do this. And if she does not work out, then I know I tried. I am very proud of her for having the talent and oppertunity to succeed.

I am doing quite well Brooke thanks for asking. Honestly today I feel really well I am at peace with the decision, and the trainer is very optimistic of Conkas success in her program. I was also proud of myself that I addressed Conka's few "issues" she had last time and she is over them. (She also suprised my "know it all friend") Of course he does not give me credit for it, and chalks it up to "maturity" riiiiiiiiight. I almost knew this situation with her would be temporary. So now I have to listen to him go on and on about how he did blah blah blah with Conka. Like she did not already know it. Last night some new friends of mine and I went to the bar... hehe It was fun, I of course am a glutten for punishment and rode the bull TWICE! I rode it as fast as it would go, and out rode most of the guys and the "tough" girls.... hehe And yes I did aquire more blasted bruises. But I am not as sore this time ;D.
