I have a black lab mix who loves to hunt. I recently taught her how to swim, and she does great in a few places, but at some ponds she won't swim when the the mud is soft and kind of deep. How can i get her to swim in these places? What should I do to make her retrieve downed ducks in these situations?

Grab your hip waders and go in with her ;D. However, if she's refusing to go into a body of water that has deep mud, you may not want to force the issue. Dogs have a very healthy sense of self-preservation, and if she's refusing to go in, it may be because she senses it may not be the safest thing to do.

I have gone in with her and tried to ease her in, but it's probably like you said, how she's afraid of the deep mud. Is their anyway I can convince her to just go through it? Because after a little bit of mud she'll be able to swim, so she just needs to pass up the very first little bit of mud.
