Okay - you have to do what you feel in your gut is right. But I have to ask you to consider that if he is sick - kibble is not the best thing to help him recover. Just because the poop looks good....doesn't really mean the dog is healty. Fixing the symptom doesn't fix the problem. I can understand that if you are worried that he is over run with bacteria that he can't handle raw for now. I would feed cooked meat and canned fish if I were you. Raw bones can wait and the fish has pressure cooked bones that are very easy to digest. Good luck whatever you decide.... we'll be here when you are ready to try again.

AHH so they can get sick from water . All this time I did not think that they could. See I learned something. Yes I hope Sunny gets better soon. It sucks when your dog is sick and you don't really know why, but like Loey said I would never think it was from the raw.

Must have posted at the same time Amy ;D But I agree with you kibble will be worse to digest than all natural foods whether cooked or raw plus it can hold the bacteria in the system longer. I found that out when Blade was sick and if I would not have been so spooked, I would have just cooked up some rice and chicken, and chicken broth untill he was better. Nicki you do what you feel is best and when your ready to try again we are all here for you.

There is also Parvo and/or a Parvo like virus going around that I have been reading about . Dogs come down with terrible vomiting/diarrhea. Some test positive for Parvo, some negative, but they are all very sick dogs!

I am pretty sure dog's CAN get sick from bacteria in water...I don' think it is terribly common but certianly possible.
Mickey got giardia once as well...which is a parasite- but the point is, it was from drinking water.

Thanks everyone. I will let you know what the vet says. Sunny has also been lethargic. Remember I said I thought the Canidae was making him lethargic. That is exactly how Brian was. Sunny was also drinking more (again I thought it was the food) but more likely he was dehydrated.
Such a weird coincidence that both my boys drank the water and both have similar symtoms!!

Do you still have some of that Cainadae? I might be way off here and since Brian does'nt eat dog food (does he j/k) you might want to get that tested. Cainadae was the brand I was feeding Blade when he got sick, and a light went on (dim but still on ;D) It would'nt hurt to think about that.

Aww, poor Sunny ! Yes, dogs can become ill from tainted drinking water, cryptosporidium, giardia, yada yada yada. I don't think the raw was the cause of it at all, it really sounds like your boys picked up a bug. I wouldn't go back to the Canidae at the moment, keep him on a bland diet of rice and chopmeat (cooked) and maybe a little canned salmon for a few days.

I fed Sunny cooked boiled chicken and some rice and boy was that popular. He still has the strains/drips though. Thanks for the food advice. I was going to give him kibble. I took today off and now they called and want me to work tomorrow so I have to postpone the vet until Monday unless they have a cancellation on Saturday. So I won't have an answer probably until next week. Ann, I will ask the vet about the canidae and bring him a sample. I am convinced it was the water though. And I think that is why the switch to raw did not go so well. Coliform bacteria is an indication that other harmful bacteria are present like E. Coli and Fecal Coliform. How disgusting!
