Other problems with rawhides besides being able to choke or get a blocked intestine if they chew off a piece, is getting really sick from them, because they have been known to have nasties in them, from bacteria to certain chemicles.

Yep, like Willow said, they can pretty sick from them. Before I knew better, my dog was getting rawhides all the time. And then one day he looked exceptionally bloated, and lay around all day. He was sick like that for what seemed like forever, and the vet just said he was glad I learned my lesson. Instead of just spreading the peanut butter around the edges, try mixing the peanut butter with oatmeal to make a really thick pastey substance. Then stuff it in the kong and freeze it. If you have any room left at the big hole, you could stuff some mashed bananas in there..mmm... Another favorite kong recipe is when I fill the small hole with peanut butter, turn it small hole down in a paper cup and fill it with yogurt. Then I freeze it overnight. YUMMY!

Ever since I can remember my dogs have been getting non cooked bones. My dad hunts deer and then puts the ribs in the tree for the birds to eat after the hide and meat is eaten off the ribs fall out of the tree and my dogs pick them up carry them around chew on them and burry them, the bones are not allowed in the house as they sometimes get dirty after being burried and dug up several times. The dogs love them, the bones rarely break even after years. I also used to give raw hides to my dog Sheeba, but she would want out so badly after we gave it to her, she went straight outside and burried it and that was that, she never chewed on them just burried, so she doesn't get them, because all she would do with them is burry them, she has her bones for that. Our front yard looks like a bone yard because of all of the old bones and sticks the dogs drag into the front yard for decoration.
